Social and cultural activist and businessman Lion Kumaran Nair has been appointed Vice President of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC). A resident of Mulund Model Society and a native of Thiruvananthapuram, Kumaran Nair has been active in various community and social initiatives. His appointment was announced by K. C. Venugopal, General Secretary of the AICC.

Mumbaikars can now enjoy seamless travel across the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region with the launch of ‘Mumbai One’, a unified QR code–based ticketing system. Passengers can purchase a single ticket for forward journeys across local trains, Metro lines (1, 2, 3, 7), Navi Mumbai Metro, Monorail, and buses operated by BEST, TMT, NMMT, KDMT, and MBMT—all through one digital platform.

Developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), this mobile app eliminates the need for multiple travel apps and adds no extra cost to users. The system, capable of handling up to 50 lakh transactions daily, currently serves around 10 lakh commuters. However, return and season tickets are not yet available under this scheme.

Renowned cultural personality, social organiser, and activist Gopkumar Pillai passed away yesterday after a period of illness. A prominent figure in Maharashtra’s cultural arena, he was associated with the People’s Arts Centre and played a key role in organising cultural events in Mumbai for over four decades. His demise marks the end of an era in the city’s cultural movement, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and creativity.

We are deeply pained to hear about the unexpected demise of well-known social worker from Navi Mumbai, Sri Sabu Daniel. He was closely associated with Kerala in Mumbai since its inception and continued to remain an active part of it ever since.

Members and families of the Panvel Malayali Samajam celebrated Onam at Virupaksha Hall, Panvel. The celebrations began with a warm welcome to Maveli, accompanied by Chendamelam and Thalappoli. The event was made vibrant with a variety of cultural programs presented by the members and their families.

Poet and cultural activist G. Viswanathan, writer and danseuse Nisha Gilbert, and NORKA Development Officer S. Rafiq were the special guests of the day. Ms. Nisha Prakash was felicitated for being appointed as a Malayalam Teacher by the Government of Kerala.

President T. N. Hariharan, Secretary Sunny Mathew, and General Convenor Satish Nair, along with Somarajan, K. A. Joseph, Sandhya Vinod, and Jolly Thomas, coordinated the event’s programs.

Winners of the Pookkalam contest and students who achieved outstanding marks in the recently held SSC and HSC examinations were also honored during the celebration.

Panvel Malayali Samajam Celebrates Onam with Grandeur and Cultural Spirit

The Kerala Wing of Shiv Sena will celebrate its 15th ‘Shiva Onam’ on October 26 at 9:30 a.m. at the Ashraya Community Hall, Nerul. Shiv Sena leader and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will inaugurate the event by lighting the traditional lamp.

Member of Parliament Naresh Mhaske, Deputy Leader Vijay Chowgule, E.V. Homes Chairman Commander E.V. Thomas, Shiv Sena District Leader Kishore Ashok Patkar, and Women’s Wing representative Saroj Patil will attend as special guests.

Kerala Wing of Shiv Sena to Celebrate 15th Shiva Onam in Nerul

Norka Care, under Norka Roots for Pravasis, conducted an educational camp to inform Keralite expatriates about the initiatives undertaken by Norka, including the Norka ID Card and the Pravasi Welfare Pension Scheme. The event was held at the Palghar Ayyappa Temple premises.

Kairali Samajam, Ayyappa Seva Samiti, and FAIMA jointly collaborated to organize the camp.

The program was guided by FAIMA Maharashtra General Secretary Ashokan P. P., Vice President Anu B. Nair, Mumbai Zone Chairman Shivaprasad K.
